WEEK 11

Date:  25  - 29 November 2013


Subject : To create an abstract, literature review and conclusion


Introduction: The purpose of this task is to put all important information into my proposal report such as introduction, objectives, methodology, simulation, components and etc.







Objectives
  1. To explain in detail about the whole of this project.
  2. To include the present research that related to this project
  3. To conclude all project description and the project outcome.





Project Description:


This week is to get an idea to do an abstract and conclusion for this project. An abstract is a brief summary of a research article, thesis, review or any in-depth analysis of a particular subject or discipline, and is often used to help the reader quickly ascertain the paper's purpose.


Problem Encountered:


It is quite difficult to think a good sentence to make this report is understanding when user read it. By referring to all information that has been obtained, the progress become smooth. However the project is still on schedule and will proceed as how the project was planned.


Project Outcome:
More outcome has been achieved from this research. I can see the whole of this project when do an abstract.  More understanding get when do more research that related to this project. My research project is on schedule and I  encounter no problems finishing it abd submit this report on week 14. 


WEEK 12 and 13

Date:  2 - 13 December  2013

Subject : Preparation for report proposal.


Introduction: The purpose of this task is to put all important information into my proposal report such as introduction, objectives, methodology, simulation, components and etc.








Objectives
  1. To explain in detail about the overall information of the project.
  2. To include the reason and costing in proper method to do this project





Project Description:



This week is to choose the important information to put into the proposal report. Based on figure 1, it is the checklist that have to follow to get the best mark. All information/research need to put based on this checklist.

In addition, there have one project flow chart that need to put into methodology part. Based on Figure 2, it is the sequence overall for this project development.

Problem Encountered:


It have few problem appear when do this proposal report. All information has amendment from my supervisor and need to change a few part in terms of grammar, list of figure, table and etc. All work progress has been done successfully. However the project is still on schedule and will proceed as how the project was planned.


Project Outcome:

More outcome has been achieved from this research. I can see the flow of my project during this report proposal.  More understanding get when do more research that related to this project. My research project is on schedule and I  encounter no problems finishing it abd submit this report on week 14..

WEEK 10

Date:  18  - 22 November 2013

Subject : 1) Prepared a slide for presentation day on Friday

Introduction:
The purpose of this task is to put all important information into the power point slide such as introduction, objectives, methodology, simulation, components and etc.


Objectives
  1. To explain in detail about the objective of the project.
  2. To get any feedback or new idea regarding our project from assessors.

Project Description:

This week is to summarize all important information and put into the power point slide. it must be studies more detail and understanding the project progress for better explanation to the assessors. The information must be based on technical specification of the product. Below is all slides (from slide 1 to 12) that have been done during presentation day.  

















Problem Encountered:

It have no problem appear during this preparation for presentation day. All work progress has been done successfully. However the project is still on schedule and will proceed as how the project was planned.


Project Outcome:

More outcome has achieved from this research. More understanding has been achieved during this slide preparation. In fact, I have get new knowledge when do the research in terms of components, previous researches and objectives that need to achieved. My research project is on schedule and I should encounter no problems finishing it.

WEEK 9

Date:  11  - 15 November 2013

Subject : 1) Research about the capacitor for power supply circuit, Integrated Circuit for DC motor and power supply circuit. 

Introduction:

The purpose of this task is to research about the types of capacitor for the power supply and also each of integrated circuit that will be used in software. 


Objectives
  1. To find the suitable component that will need used in this projects.
  2. to research about the DC motor circuit and power supply circuit.

Project Description:

1.  Capacitor

Capacitors stored electric charge. They are used with resistors in timing circuits because it takes time for a capacitor to fill with charge. They are used to smooth varying DC supplies by acting as a reservoir of charge. They are also used in filter circuits because capacitors easily pass AC (changing) signals but they block DC (constant) signals.

This is a measure of a capacitor's ability to store charge. A large capacitance means that more charge can be stored. Capacitance is measured in farads, symbol F. However 1F is very large, so prefixes are used to show the smaller values.



2.  DC motor circuit

From figure 1, it can see that the IC L293D is used to control the DC motor. From the previous research, I have also mention about this types of IC. It have also simulation by used Proteus software to see the output and it shows the expected result. This IC will control the direction (Forward or Reverse) for the wheel motor. Basically this type of IC is most popular in control the direction for more than 1 motor for PIC controller. 

3. Peripheral Interface Controller (PIC) Circuit

From figure 2, it can see that the combination of a few circuits such as motor circuit, sensor circuit and output relay circuit. This circuit will sketch in software and also will do the simulation to try and error either it have an error or wrong connection to the IC.The IC will use types PIC 16F877A and it is compatible with the software at BMI labs. So it can make the testing process will run smoothly. 


Problem Encountered:

From this research, I have to interface with proteus software to make this project run successfully. The connection must be correct and follow with the specification from datasheet. Hopefully when do the simulation test it will show a good connection and will function as expected. All components/material that have been research was suitable to use in this project. However the project is still on schedule and will proceed as how the project was planned.


Project Outcome:

More outcome has achieved from this research. Next is preparation to make a slide for presentation. So it need to selected a few information to put in the slide based on checklist given in FYP website. My research project is on schedule and I should encounter no problems finishing it.

WEEK 8

Date:  4 - 8 November 2013


Subject : 1) Research about the Light Emitting Diodes (LED) used in Smart Grass Cutter technology and also designing a illustration for the prototype.
            
Introduction:

The purpose of this task is to continue a research about above mention components that will be used in this project. The research include the input voltage and current for the LED.


Objectives
  1. To find the suitable component that will need used in this projects.
  2. To get the actual design for this prototype. 

Project Description

Information is gathered using resources such as the internet and the books. The other source is from Jalan Pasar which is the place that distributed all electronic and electrical components. Below is the components description.  


1) Light Emitting Diodes (LED)


A normal LED use 5V and 5mA to operate and through LED the current status of the system can be known. LED is very sensitive if the current is exceed then 5mA the LED will burn. So its need to put the resistor to the LED for limit the current. 
From the data sheet, the voltage for LED is 5v and the maximum current is 5mA. by ohm law, the value of resistor can determine.

                                                          R=1KΩ

LED must be connected the correct way round, the diagram may be labeled a or + for anode and k or - for cathode (yes, it really is k, not c, for cathode!). 
The cathode is the short lead and there may be a slight flat on the body of round LED. If you can see inside the LED the cathode is the larger electrode (but this is not an official identification method). LED can be damaged by heat when soldering, but the risk is small unless you are very slow. No special precautions are needed for soldering most LED.

Based on figure 2, it is the design for the prototype of smart grass cutter. It can see each compartment used in this robot. All circuits such as power supply, infrared sensor, PCB layout with IC, DC motor drives circuit are put inside the body compartment. the infra red sensor must at the front of the robot because it will detecting any object and send the signal to the controller. 


Problem Encountered:

From this research, I have to create the shape for my prototype. Basically this design is small and all circuit need to put inside the body compartment. If the shape is big then its need more costing to buy the material for the prototype. Therefore this project also can be function even the shape is too small as long the objectives is achieved. However the project is still on schedule and will proceed as how the project was planned.


Project Outcome:

More outcome has achieved from this research. Next planning is want to research about  the circuit  that have to used in Proteus software. Several circuits need to create such as power supply circuit, circuit for DC motor and etc. My research project is on schedule and I should encounter no problems finishing it.
