WEEK 9

Subject : 1) Research about the capacitor for power supply circuit, Integrated Circuit for DC motor and power supply circuit. 

Introduction:

The purpose of this task is to research about the types of capacitor for the power supply and also each of integrated circuit that will be used in software. 


Objectives
  1. To find the suitable component that will need used in this projects.
  2. to research about the DC motor circuit and power supply circuit.

Project Description:

1.  Capacitor

Capacitors stored electric charge. They are used with resistors in timing circuits because it takes time for a capacitor to fill with charge. They are used to smooth varying DC supplies by acting as a reservoir of charge. They are also used in filter circuits because capacitors easily pass AC (changing) signals but they block DC (constant) signals.

This is a measure of a capacitor's ability to store charge. A large capacitance means that more charge can be stored. Capacitance is measured in farads, symbol F. However 1F is very large, so prefixes are used to show the smaller values.



2.  DC motor circuit

From figure 1, it can see that the IC L293D is used to control the DC motor. From the previous research, I have also mention about this types of IC. It have also simulation by used Proteus software to see the output and it shows the expected result. This IC will control the direction (Forward or Reverse) for the wheel motor. Basically this type of IC is most popular in control the direction for more than 1 motor for PIC controller. 

3. Peripheral Interface Controller (PIC) Circuit

From figure 2, it can see that the combination of a few circuits such as motor circuit, sensor circuit and output relay circuit. This circuit will sketch in software and also will do the simulation to try and error either it have an error or wrong connection to the IC.The IC will use types PIC 16F877A and it is compatible with the software at BMI labs. So it can make the testing process will run smoothly. 


Problem Encountered:

From this research, I have to interface with proteus software to make this project run successfully. The connection must be correct and follow with the specification from datasheet. Hopefully when do the simulation test it will show a good connection and will function as expected. All components/material that have been research was suitable to use in this project. However the project is still on schedule and will proceed as how the project was planned.


Project Outcome:

More outcome has achieved from this research. Next is preparation to make a slide for presentation. So it need to selected a few information to put in the slide based on checklist given in FYP website. My research project is on schedule and I should encounter no problems finishing it.
